Kwak Tae-Hwi joins Al Shabab FC (Riyadh)

South Korean international Kwak Tae-Hwi joined Al Shabab FC. He recently arrived in Riyadh, being welcomed by fans and cameras.


The 31 -year-old centre-back joined Ulsan Hyundai in 2011 and played 73 games for the East Coast club, scoring 12 goals and captaining the side in their 2012 Asia Champions League victory campaign.

After lifting the Champions League trophy, he decided to move on and start a new challenge. Saudi Arabian side  Al-Ahli SC (Jeddah), UAE side Al-Wahda S.C.C., Chinese side Shandong Luneng Taishan F.C., a Turkish club and an Austrian club all expressed interest but it was the current Saudi Arabian champions Al Shabab that snatched Kwak Tae-Hwi.

Kwak Tae-Hwi eventually joined Al Shabab on a 18-months contract with transfer fee of approximately US$ 2 million. 

Meanwhile, Kwak Tae-Hwi expressed desire to return to Ulsan after his contract with Al Shabab ends, stating that he wants to retire at Ulsan.
